Carnival in Valencia

Carnival is more a party that is celebrated in the towns around Valencia, like in Gandia, Ayora, Requena and so on, but we also have carnival in Valencia city centre! We celebrated it in Ruzafa, a lovely, modern and upcoming neighbourhood in the city centre of Valencia!

Did you miss it? Don´t worry because the party goes on. In Russafa there is carnival every Saturday till the 20th of February and in Benimaclet Saturday 13th of February.

Why is there a carnival in Valencia? Carnival is a Christian festive season that occurs before the Christian season of Lent. The main events typically occur during February or early March. Carnival typically involves a public celebration and/or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and public street party. People wear masks during many such celebrations, an overturning of life’s normal things. The celebrations have long been associated with heavy alcohol consumption.

Why should you celebrate carnival in Valencia? Carnival is also celebrated in other European countries and usually it is celebrated in the open air (outside) but be honest, if you can choose to go out to party outside in a crazy costume you prefer to do that without a coat in a nice, warm and sunny climate then in a cold rainy climate right? Another reason you should celebrate carnival in Valencia is because people in Spain love it to wear costumes and you can see the most crazy dresses on the street! Take your chance and visit the carnival festivities in Ruzafa and Benimaclet next weekend!
